Ely Nevada rail panos

Post by Jim Zuccaro » Wed May 11, 2011 10:49 am

The Northern Nevada Rail Road, in Ely, Nevada, has a couple of photography excursions each winter. This year was the first time I've been able to go.

Of the two dozen photographers there, I was the only one trying stitched photography. The action scenes weren't well suited for panos, but many photo opportunities were very wide scenes, a fish-eye lens or stitched photos would be the only way to capture them. I was a little suprised that no one else sees the opportunity.

Another small suprise was that the professional video photographers were using Canon 5DmkII cameras for video. Its a funny thing to see a motion picture photo set-up with a DSLR on top.

Wow, Jim, those are great. Perhaps it betrays my bias for scenery, but i really like the last two.

Yes, I too have the scenery bias, in what I like.

In the group of train photographers, I was usually the odd one out, looking for the beautiful scenery. Eastern Nevada is especially beautiful in the winter.

Here's a pano of train photographers (very nice guys, every one of them!)

The last two images of your first post are amazing. I really like the motion in the smoke that makes the photos very "dynamic".
