The latest revision of autopano-sift-c can read PTAssembler projects, and is usable (from the command line) as a control point finder for PTAsm. The command would be
"autopano-sift-c <out>.pto <proj>.ptp"
where <proj> is the name of your PTAsm project. Then PTAsm can load the Hugin project, <out>.pto either as a new project, or just add the CPs to the existing project.
There is a Win32 executable of this version on my ftp site:
ftp://tksharpless.net username: tksftp password: TKSpwd1.
From a browser you can just go to http://tksharpless.net and click on the "download" link. Select autopano-sift-c.exe and copy it to your computer. This is the actual program, not an installer.

Tom,
Thanks for creating and posting this. I have used it a little and it seems to work fine...I haven't encountered any problems with it yet. I also did a little comparison with some other control point picker programs.
Is there (or will there be) an official location to download a Windows binary version of Autopano-SIFT-C, or is it only available as part of the Hugin package?
Thanks,
Max |

Hi Max,
I'm glad you were able to test APSC with PTAsm, and that it seemed to work decently.
Although the source code lives in the Hugin repository, there probably will never be an official binary distribution of APSC through the Hugin project, because of anxieties over the SIFT patent. I'll be keeping the copy on my website up to date, however, and some other Hugin developers publish builds from time to time. Apart from your own possible patent axieties, there is no reason you shouldn't distribute it, too (free of course). It is way easier to build than Hugin, btw, the source is almost self-sufficient.
Regards, Tom |
