At first this image was used as a joke about the size of uploadable photos on some Internet site where permited width is too low for panoramas and it is only a fake I made using Photoshop.

But I ended actually making such "accordion prints".

First attempts were not wonderful at all. Then I used a paper trimmer with a circular blade: with a magnifying glas one can reach better than 1/10 mm precision (cut top and bottom first, then the sides to be joined).

Joining each parts with ordinary adhesive tape don't work very well: you can't fold the result or you must leave some unwanted space between the paper sheets for that (I use heavy glossy paper). The right solution is 3M Micropore Surgical Tape which is extensible in only one direction: a light tension can insure the sheets are well joined, then you can fold the resulting panorama like a book or place it unfolded on a wall. In a removable carboad cover this make a perfect gift!

...But beware: "A weak organic acid is in the copolymer used to make the Micropore tape adhesive, so technically, Micropore tape is not considered "acid-free". [...] Micropore tape was not designed to be used on photos and other important objects, and the effects of the tape over time on these types of objects are not known."

When you read 3M Micropore FAQ, It's clear I'm not the first to find this tape useful for photography!

Hey Georges,
Tres Cool! It's Grenoble, non?
The accordion fold is really neat, a great way to sell large panos in a small, fun package. Have you printed on a single piece of paper, then folded? Or do you always join several photos?

Yes, it's Grenoble as seen from my terrace (more at: http://www.pbase.com/image/16742290/original.jpg).
Because my printer is limited to 23" in length and my panoramas rather large, I always print them as several parts. Cutting a single large print would be easier.
What I wanted to share with others is that the resulting accordion is easy to handle and fine when foldings are well located.

GURL, nice Photoshop work. Any tips on how you did that? I would like to try it myself...

Actually, it could be more difficult to explain than to do:
- cut the panorama into 12 rectangular pieces
- for each rectangle increase canvas height
- use Edit - Transform - Skew to give each a parallelogram shape
- darken even numbered pieces
- reassemble
- use Drop Shadow effect

View - Snap - Snap to grid was certainly used!

Geoge,

you posted the accordion-print for three and half years ago.

What has your experience been in the meantime re the durability of the accordion, particularly of the 3M Surgical Tape?

Now four years: I just can't believe it!

3M Micropore Surgical Tape is durable, seams (or should I say "junctures") are still solid and flexible.

I used Canon Photo Paper Pro (PR101) which is a strong and brilliant paper and there is no apparent problem between the back of this paper and 3M surgical tape. The tape didn't changed color or quite (no unpleasant yellow cast.)

I gave the best ones and forgot some on the top of a wardrobe, so that I'm surprised to see how fine they are...
